Footprints
If we could see into the future, Would it come to us in flashes,
Or would we find that we could focus, for long periods of time?
And if the latter were true then would, these presages become normal,
So we’d be always looking forward, Forgetting all thats past?
Inside my contradiction on the M3 motorway
Gridlocked going nowhere staring through the window pane
I watched a wingless insect as it struggled to regain itself,
but stumble from each inconvenience to face the same again
I don’t think we quite appreciate the power of the rain
Until we see the complications that a single droplet makes
Take nothing but pictures,
kill nothing but time
Leave nothing but footprints,
and she’ll be fine
What if we scaled things up and saw that insect as an island
Because the insects host to parasites that act a lot like humans
Single drops become big waves, the window pane becomes an ocean
The breeze becomes a wind that magnifys the waves momentum
Then it surges on its coarse armed with the grace of mother nature
Dishing out the consequences for those actions made against her
If we take, nothing but pictures,
kill nothing but time
Leave nothing but footprints and she’ll be fine
The crimes that we’re commiting aren’t like footprints found on beaches
The tides will not come rolling in and wash them all away
And for so long we’ve been quite happy fixing problems temporarily
Occasionally reacting to pictures on the news
But out of sight and out of mind while there’s still other ground to stand on
Sitting in our bubbles while the problems reproduce
But if we take, nothing but pictures,
kill nothing but time
leave nothing but our footprints and she’ll be fine
If we could see into the future, would it come to us in flashes,
Or would we find that we could focus, for long periods of time?
And if the latter were true then would, these presages become normal,
So we’d be always looking forward, Forgetting all the reasons why?

Such excellent words, a sentiment so resonant I can’t stop playing this track again and again. Thank you!
